launderette

I’ve sold more prints of this image than any other. In 2018, I stumbled across the launderette in Shepherd’s Bush a few years ago. It was late and we were walking back to a friend’s house after a night out which involved too many beers and a curry. It was one of those times when you just know that what you see will make a good photograph. Cool colours and sense of nostalgia and a part of London I feel very connected to and am fond of. It all looked very Wes Anderson to me. Anyway, I had no camera on me though which means I had to take the photo on my iPhone (an iPhone 6s Plus i think). The Launderette was closed. So I had my iPhone pressed up against the glass door. Right up against it. I’ve lost count of the number of times people have asked me what camera it was taken on. No lie - it was shot on an old iPhone. Of course I’ve been back since to try and take a “better” vesion on a “proper” camera but I never liked the result. Sometimes photography is all about the first picture you take and no matter how many times you try to take a better version, it’s never quite the same.
